The Lab Technician will be responsible for performing routine and specialized hematology and urinalysis tests with accuracy and efficiency, ensuring compliance with NABL/ISO 15189 standards. The role includes sample analysis, quality control, instrument maintenance, and timely reporting.
Key Responsibilities
1. Sample Handling & Processing
- Receive, verify, and process blood and urine samples
- Ensure proper labeling, storage, and sample integrity
- Identify and reject unsuitable samples as per SOP with documentation
2. Hematology Testing & Analysis
- Perform routine tests:
- CBC (Complete Blood Count)
- ESR (Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate)
- Peripheral smear preparation and staining
Perform specialized tests:
- Reticulocyte count
- Coagulation tests (PT, APTT, INR)
Operate automated hematology analyzers
3. Urinalysis (Routine & Microscopy)
- Perform routine urine examination including:
- Physical examination (color, clarity, volume)
- Chemical analysis using dipstick analyzers
- Perform urine microscopy:
- Identification of RBCs, WBCs, epithelial cells
- Detection of casts, crystals, bacteria, yeast, parasites
- Ensure proper centrifugation and slide preparation
- Correlate abnormal findings and escalate when required
4. Quality Control & NABL Compliance
- Run Internal Quality Control (IQC) for hematology and urinalysis
- Maintain QC records, Levy-Jennings charts, and corrective actions
- Follow SOPs and ensure proper documentation
- Participate in External Quality Assurance Programs (EQAS)
- Ensure audit readiness at all times
5. Instrument Maintenance
- Perform routine maintenance and calibration of:
- Hematology analyzers
- Urine analyzers / microscopy equipment
- Troubleshoot minor issues and coordinate with service engineers
Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of hematology and urine microscopy
- Experience with hematology and urine analyzers
- Familiarity with NABL / ISO 15189 standards
- Attention to detail and accuracy
- Basic computer and LIS knowledge
